DARBY: A STUDY IN BIGOTRY, BIPOLAR POLITICS AND BAROQUE MERITOCRACIES

We really need to stop giving this clown any press whatsoever. It’s too much.

This post began here:

“Apparently, Darby was the Alabama state director for the American Atheists. Larry Darby is now running as the Democratic candidate for Alabama Attorney General. He won't win because he is an Atheist. Other than that, his Jew hating, anti-gay, pro-White views would probably give him a slam dunk victory in inbreed country. According to the article in Newsday, he thinks 140,000 Jews died in Europe tops, and most of them died of Typhus.”

To his credit, I posted a comment, to which the bacon-eating atheist posted a correction.

To wit, this:

“Subject: A STATEMENT OF CONCERN AND CLARIFICATION
Recently there has been considerable discussion and concern within the Atheist community regarding
Larry Darby, head of the “Atheist Law Center.”
Darby hosted a meeting on July, 6, 2005 featuring speaker David Irving, described as “one of the world’s most notorious Holocaust-deniers.” In some news accounts, Mr. Darby has been described as former State Director of American Atheists.
We wish to confirm and underscore this fact. Darby has not served in that capacity as a Director for over two years. Many of his activities and statements, especially concerning the Holocaust as well as how he conducts himself regarding Atheist, Freethought,
Humanist or nonbeliever groups and individuals, do not in any way reflect the official position of American Atheists or its officers.”

That being settled and out of the way, I was at the West Coast Atheist meet, when Eddie Talabash took the podium, and spoke at length about voting for atheist agendas. He mentioned Darby (not by name), only that a former director in Alabamba had run for office. In short, we were told: vote atheist, but not if said atheist is a loon.

Recently, the NGB had three separate threads with posts announcing that Darby needed funding. I rather doubt that anyone unlimbered their wallets on command.

And now this (brought to my attention via Pharyngula -
http://skepticrant.blogspot.com/2006/07/bigot-finds-jesus-democrats-convenient.html

(Snip)
MONTGOMERY - Alabama's most prominent atheist is no longer an atheist.

Larry Darby, a former candidate for attorney general who lost in the Democratic [?!WTF?!] primary but won most of North Alabama, said he is embracing Jesus as he crusades against "Judeo-Marxism."

Darby, a Montgomery lawyer who received more votes in Huntsville than Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson, released a long written statement Friday saying that others in the atheist community had turned their backs on him.

[...]

"Contrary to expectation, many atheist member organizations or many groups that allegedly represent free thinkers were quick to jump on the Judeo-Marxist bandwagon and dis(a)ssociate themselves from me," Darby wrote.

Darby had fallen out of favor with many groups after he said he doubted the veracity of the Holocaust.

In his release, Darby said he believed "thousands" of Jews died in the Holocaust. The widely accepted number of deaths in the Holocaust is 6 million.

Along with questioning the Holocaust, Darby also embraced white supremacist groups and spoke at a white supremacist conference in May.
(End snip)

Shee-it, make up your mind. This clown changes his mind more often than Ross Perot’s presidential bid.

Fact is, poor wittwe anti-semite’s getting a little lonely, no?

I for one am glad he’s deserted the ranks. Apparently there is such a thing as bad publicity.

That’s my nickel’s worth, anyways.

I think Darby is still on free thought radio.

He obviously doesn't believe in God, he believes in dead Jews though.

Apparently, Darby just believes in going where the votes are.
He's a loon, and he's a conniving, hateful loon. I hope he does officially desert the ranks of atheism.

I 1st learned of this dipstick when the NGB did a post about Irving some time ago.
It's these kinda folks what give us a bad name. I was reading up on O'Hair last nite: holy guacamole, batman! Dat bitch was CA-RAZY!
I became an atheist on my own, w/no help from anyone. I made the choice w/o researching what other atheists had done.
That's all it is: a choice. A choice not to live in fear.

I think it's official at this point. If you're a fringe fanatic, the only place you can go is to the fringe itself.

RA, some say Atheism isn't a choice. It is a natural conclusion.

btw, I didn't know an Atheist from Adam when I realized that God didn't exist.

Well, I think darby is just going back to the source and roots of where his crackpot beliefs come from. Just because someone claims to be an atheist doesnt mean he isnt enfluenced by religious beliefs. We all tend to forget that even Stallen and Mossalini(sp?)were in bed with the catholic church at the times of their rule. And how many people do any of us know that hasnt been touched by religion in some way shape or form?

I have yet to meet such.

Sure, if independent of the environment.

I'm having a similar conversation at the NGB, which sparks the query:
Do the religious think we were 'converted'? Probably. YAF (yet another fallacy).

Exactly.
